"HEROES ON DECK" Film Premiere
On May 22nd, 2016 Glenview Hangar One Foundation, with the assistance of Bring It Home Glenview, hosted a spectacular kick-off event for the new fundraising drive for a permanent NASG Museum and Flight Academy on former NASG land - with the local premiere of the film, "Heroes On Deck."
This documentary by filmmakers John Davies, Harvey Moshman and Brian Kallies, and underwritten by Capt. Dave Truitt, explores and pays tribute to the vital training of carrier pilots in Lake Michigan and at Naval Air Station Glenview during WWII. The film chronicles not just the story of how the over 100 WWII planes ended up on the bottom of the lake, but also showcases never before seen footage of the recovery of several of these lost NASG fighter planes.
The Glenview film event could not have been possible without the extraordinary generosity of sponsors Autohaus on Edens and Northbrook Toyota, ArcLight Cinemas, The Glen Town Center, Kaminski Architects, Abt Electronics, Illinois Tool Works, Berkshire Hathaway, and the restaurants who joined in for the "Taste of The Glen" reception before the film: Ben & Jerrys, Curragh, Flight and Your Pie, as well as the numerous volunteers at the event - including the Glenview Jr. Flight Academy Ambassadors. The event, which was held at ArcLight Cinemas on the site of the former NASG, was attended by over 500 people, sold out in a matter of days and raised significant funds for the kick-off of fundraising for a permanent museum and learning center!
Following its national and international theater premieres, "Heroes On Deck" aired across the nation on public television over Memorial Day weekend 2016.
